VPE Model 1 DSP Dipole Woofer
The LDW Model 1 DSP was the result of two years of design and experimentation and provides the best fit, electrically, acoustically and ergonomically, for your smaller dipole speaker. It is the fastest, best performing dynamic woofer you have ever heard because it shares the advantages of a dipole – a supercardiode polar response and NO cabinet resonance or energy storage.
“VPE Model 1 Little Dipole Woofer (LDW) – Magnepan LRS ribbon speakers are both interesting and have impressive-sounding qualities, in the right conditions. After spending time with them it is easy to see why the company’s products have the following and regard that they do. For myself, I would not be a suitable candidate for the LRS simply due to their inherent lack of ability in the bottom octaves. The addition of the VPE Electrodynamics Little Dipole Woofer Model 1 and Magna Riser Airborne stands completely changes the equation, however. I would consider them almost mandatory additions to the purchase of a pair of LRS if moving to larger Maggies is not an option. If you have the time and patience required to get the setup just right, you will be rewarded with an immersive and effortless sound that will have people doing double-takes when they see the thinness of the LRS panels. If you just don’t care for bass, or you just want to build the system incrementally, the Magna Riser Airborne stands are an excellent and recommended addition to the panels alone.
Personally, the overall, souped-up results are so transformative, that once you’ve heard the LRS panels and LDW 1 subwoofers together and working properly, I defy anyone to go back to the panels alone. They’re like Nitrous Oxide and some headers for your Maggies !”

VPE Model 2 DSP Dipole Woofer
The VPE Model 2 DSP Dipole Woofer was the result of three years of design and experimentation. The Model 2 provides a good fit, electrically, acoustically, and aesthetically for your larger dipole speakers, (e.g. Magnepan Models 3.7 and 20.7, Quad 2812 and 2912). It is the fastest, best-performing dynamic woofer you have ever heard because it shares the advantages of a dipole – a super-cardioid polar response and NO cabinet resonance or energy storage. The Model 2 is a cubically shaped cabinet with a floor-coupled front slot and an open back. The DSP amplifier is mounted on the back “dog-bone” panel for aesthetics and ease of connection. The Model 2 can be placed in your listening room in between your panel loudspeakers and far enough away from the back wall to provide a dipole response indistinguishable from your large dipole loudspeakers, but much lower in frequency and more powerful than panel loudspeakers are capable of operating.
The Model 2 owes its existence to the writings of two audio legends – Siegfried Linkwitz and Nelson Pass, and the introduction of affordable drivers and DSP-controlled Class D amplification from Dayton Audio. The Model 2 is constructed of Baltic ¾” 12-ply Birch Veneer Plywood and is offered in any color urethane cabinet paint offered by Sherwin-Williams in their “Emerald” line. Bespoke finishes to match your speakers and furniture using veneers in any species of wood, laminates from Formica and Wilson Art or with black acrylic fascia panels are available at additional costs.
VPE Crystal Dipole Full-Range Loudspeaker
The VPE Crystal Dipole is a modification of Nelson Pass’ Slot Loaded Open Baffle (SLOB) design, published in his paper, “The Slot Loaded Open Baffle Project”. VPE has modified the design to improve acoustics, manufacturability, and to add a Dayton Audio 500W DSP amplifier to power the slot-loaded Eminence 15” woofer. The acrylic baffle board holds the new Cube Audio F10 Select Full-Range driver which offers high efficiency (90 dB for 1 watt input) and full range performance with flat frequency response. Unlike older full-range driver designs, the F10 series is never “shouty” but offers unmatched detail and continuity due to the lack of a passive crossover between your amplifier output stage and the driver voice coil. The F10 can reproduce realistic SPL with as little as 8 watts, (e.g., 300B triode tube capabilities). The Crystal Dipole’s slot-loaded Eminence 15” woofer extends the F10’s bass response low enough to allow performance competitive with any SOTA loudspeaker in the world.
To allow the F10 to perform to its full potential, the rigidly-mounted plywood baffle board of the original Pass design is replaced with a ½” thick piece of optical quality acrylic sheet with has 4 times the vibration damping of plywood. Acrylic is twice as dense as plywood but has half the elastic modulus which provides improved mechanical properties. The acrylic baffle is also isolated from the ¾” plywood support frame with felt dampers to prevent woofer vibration from impacting the Cube Audio F10 Select full-range driver.
